Should bare root perennials have shoots/leaves on arrival?Updated 19 days ago

When supplied in early spring, many bare roots will not yet have shoots although you should see some small buds. When supplied later in spring, bare roots will have usually produced some shoots or small leaves. If they have already sprouted, this is good sign that they are viable. The shoots may be pale and look weak on arrival, shoots should be left exposed above the soil surface and will soon green up after planting.
